Why Is My Geeni Camera Offline? Causes and Fixes

When a Geeni camera shows as offline, the camera has usually lost power, lost its connection to the router, or lost access to the internet. The fastest fix is to start with the simplest causes and avoid resetting the camera until you have ruled out everything else.

Important: Buttons, indicator lights and reset procedures vary by camera model. Check the product manual or Geeni Support instructions for your exact device before performing a factory reset.

1. Confirm that the camera has power

Check the outlet, power adapter, cable and any power strip or switch connected to the camera. Look for the camera’s normal status light or startup behavior. If possible, test the outlet with another device.

For a battery-powered camera, confirm that the battery is charged and seated correctly. Cold temperatures, frequent motion events and heavy live-view use can reduce battery life.

2. Check whether your internet is working

Connect a phone or computer to the same home network and open a website or streaming app. If other devices also lack internet access, restart the modem and router according to your internet provider’s instructions.

An internet outage can make the camera appear offline even when the camera and router are still powered.

3. Restart the camera before resetting it

Disconnect the camera from power, wait about 30 seconds, and reconnect it. For battery models, use the model-specific power or restart procedure. Allow the device time to reconnect before checking the Geeni app again.

A restart preserves the existing setup. A factory reset removes it, so resetting should come later.

4. Check the camera’s distance from the router

Walls, floors, metal surfaces, appliances and long distances can weaken Wi-Fi. If the camera reconnects when temporarily moved closer to the router, signal strength or interference is likely part of the problem.

Outdoor cameras can be especially challenging because exterior walls, masonry and metal doors may reduce the signal. Consider repositioning the router, adding appropriate Wi-Fi coverage, or choosing a camera location with a cleaner connection path.

5. Think about what changed recently

A camera may lose its saved connection after:

  • Changing the Wi-Fi network name or password.
  • Replacing the router or internet provider equipment.
  • Separating or combining 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network names.
  • Changing router security or access-control settings.
  • Moving the camera to a different part of the home.
  • Experiencing an extended power or internet outage.

If the network name or password changed, the camera may need to be paired again with the new credentials.

6. Confirm the correct Wi-Fi band

All Geeni Wi-Fi products support 2.4 GHz. Select newer dual-band Geeni products also support 5 GHz. Check the individual product page, packaging or manual to confirm which bands your camera supports.

A dual-band router normally provides both frequencies, even when you see only one Wi-Fi name. Read 2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz Wi-Fi: What Smart-Home Owners Need to Know for help finding or enabling the correct band.

7. Restart the router

Restart the router using your provider’s recommended process, then wait until internet service is fully restored before checking the camera. Avoid repeatedly unplugging equipment while it is still restarting.

If many connected devices frequently disconnect, the issue may be broader than the camera. Router placement, congestion, coverage and device capacity can all matter.

8. Check the Geeni app and account

Confirm that your phone has internet access, the Geeni app is current, and you are signed into the account that was used to add the camera. Close and reopen the app before assuming the camera itself needs to be reset.

If the camera is shared with another household member, confirm whether the primary account still sees it online.

9. Reset and pair the camera again only if needed

If the camera has power, the internet works, the Wi-Fi credentials are correct and restarts have not helped, follow the model-specific reset and pairing instructions. Place the camera near the router during setup, enter the Wi-Fi password carefully, and wait for the required indicator-light pattern.

Do not use a generic reset sequence from another camera model. The location of the reset button and the required hold time can differ.

When the camera keeps going offline

Repeated disconnections usually point to an ongoing cause rather than a one-time app problem. Watch for patterns:

  • Offline only at night may indicate a power schedule or network restart.
  • Offline during bad weather may suggest an outdoor power or signal issue.
  • Offline when several devices are active may indicate congestion or router limitations.
  • Offline in one location but stable near the router suggests weak coverage.

If the problem continues after model-specific troubleshooting, contact Geeni Support with the camera model, indicator-light behavior, router model, Wi-Fi setup and a list of the steps already attempted.
